Get to Know Me
Hi! My name is Priyanka Subburaman, a junior at Biotechnology High School, NJ . From a very young age I loved science and always was curious to learn new things. In school, I’ve always shown an affinity towards the all disciplines of science– especially biology. Outside of school, I enjoy being a part of my community as I spend time with friends, family, and neighbors. I love to help my community in all the ways I can. In my free time I love to watch Grey’s Anatomy (all twenty seasons), FaceTime my friends, and watch a good movie. I was born in Tamil Nadu, India and raised in New Jersey, USA, so I love keeping in touch with my culture as well can possible.
What Have I Done
Having dedicated years to my local first aid squad, forming meaningful connections with numerous doctors, and reading various books I've come to a profound realization that medicine transcends the confines of hospitals and the expertise of trained professionals. The public plays an equally vital role in the health care ecosystem. This journey has ignited an unrelenting passion within me to educate the public, elevate health awareness, and ensure that primary healthcare is accessible to everyone. This commitment to empowering communities through knowledge and accessibility is the beating heart of my mission.
My Aspirations
As an aspiring physician, my vision is to bridge the gap between medicine and the public. I aspire to create a future where comprehensive health education empowers individuals to take charge of their well-being, and where primary healthcare is universally accessible, irrespective of socioeconomic status. By fostering a collaborative environment between communities and healthcare providers, I aim to cultivate a society where knowledge and resources are shared freely, leading to healthier, more informed, and resilient populations. My ultimate goal is to become a healthcare provider who is not just reactive but proactive, ensuring everyone has the opportunity to lead a healthy life.
My Experience
To attain my goal I realized I should be getting experience in the medical field. So I took any opportunities that helped me to gain that experience and knowledge. I started shadowing in a pediatric dentistry office, this experience illuminated the crucial role of preventative care and the importance of equipping the public with knowledge from a young age. Shadowing an endocrinologist further expanded my understanding of the intricate balance within the human body and the critical role of patient education in managing chronic conditions. It was here that I realized how empowering patients with knowledge about their conditions could lead to more effective self-management and better quality of life. Volunteering with my local first aid squad has been the most formative of all. Being on the frontline, responding to emergencies, and providing immediate care has shown me the invaluable role that trained community members play in healthcare. These experiences underscored the importance of basic medical training for the public. It solidified my belief that healthcare is not confined to hospitals but is a shared responsibility that begins with education and community involvement.
